The Law
Current law allows a 16 year old to ride up to a 50cc machine with L-Plates on a provisional
licence with a current CBT Certificate. A 17 year old can ride up to a 125cc machine with
L-Plates with a current CBT Certificate. To ride a bigger bike or to ride without L-Plates, a
practical test must be passed. All test candidates must have a current motorcycle theory
test certificate.
